2019 Fall Travel Adventure Trip
Sequoia National Park Adventure Trip
Dates: Arrive in Sequoia National Park on Thursday, October 3d and depart for home on Sunday, October 6th Coordinators: Deb and Elaine This Fall (2019) we are returning to Sequoia National Park (October 3d-6th), with a plan to summit Alta Peak. Alta Peak (this is a link) Alta Peak is a strenuous hike! The stats are as follows: 13.7 miles round trip, 3780 foot elevation gain (to 11,200 ft). The last mile or so of the trail is particularly steep and at the highest elevation (a double-whammy). The only way us sea level-dwelling gals can make this hike work is to be in tip-top shape. Hence, why you need to commit to extensive training. That said, the peak offers 3600 views of the Great Western Divide, San Juaquin Valley, and points too numerous to list. Plus, the bragging rights for bagging this peak. Alternative Hikes For those not up to summiting Alta Peak, you can hike to Alta Meadow. Alta Meadow is a 2000’ gain over about 5 miles and then about a 1 mile in and back to the meadow for a total of about 12 miles round trip. And, if Alta Peak and Alta Meadows are not something you want to do, you can always join us and go on one of the other spectacular hikes the park has to offer (just make sure you have someone else to join you). |
