2020 Summer and Fall and Future Travel Adventure Survey
The Travel Committee is seeking member input for planning purposes regarding the 2020 Summer and Fall Travel Adventures. As you can imagine, these trips take a lot of time in organizing and reserving. So we would appreciate you letting us know as soon as possible whether you are interested in any or all of them. We are not asking for a firm commitment at this time but we would appreciate a quick response. Please respond by March 1.
In addition at the bottom of the survey is space to add your suggestions for other Travel Adventure destinations such as Palm Springs or Pasadena or ???

2020 Summer Travel Adventure: Two PossibilitiesPossibility 1. A boat trip (from Ventura) to Santa Cruz Island probably July 11 to do a four to five mile hike and explore the island for the day. This would cost $54.00 for the boat trip and cancellation 30 days in advance would allow for reimbursement but late cancellation would not.
Possibility 2. Drive to Jalama Beach (either by carpool or by renting a bus like we did last summer) and walking to Point Conception and back. This would be about a 10 mile beach walk and would be contingent on low tides - so the suggested date would be June 27 (unless you want to swim part of the way :)). Cost would be minimal for transportation (reimbursement for car pool drivers) or somewhere in the range of $50-$60 pp if we hire a bus. Comments received so far have ranged from "both sound good", to "we've done Santa Cruz a few times so let's try something different", to "let's explore our nearby National Park". Both trips described above would involve driving and we would either bring our own lunches or order sandwiches from a deli or if we go to Jalama, chow on world famous Jalama burgers. Details need to be worked out. |
2020 Fall Travel AdventureProposed trip to Boulder, Colorado to do two days of hiking in the Boulder area, and a day trip to hike in Rocky Mountains National Park (the elevation of the hike in RMNP we are considering ranges from ~9,500’ to over 10,000’ with moderate elevation gain and lots of lakes, peaks, etc.—simply gorgeous).
Boulder is a lovely town, nestled on the eastern slope of the Rockies and 25 miles northwest of Denver. It is often compared to Santa Barbara without the ocean. It has a wonderful historic district and houses the main campus of the University of Colorado. There are tons of things to do there from shopping the Pearl St. Mall with a fabulous bookstore and the Peppercorn - an incredible kitchen supply mecca to restaurants galore and local breweries, Chautauqua Resort, and more. The altitude of Boulder is 5,400 feet and trails range from easy to challenging. Most likely it would be a four night trip and probably be planned for early October. Costs would be approximately:
